Convergence Theory for Inexact Inverse Iteration Applied to the Generalised Nonsymmetric Eigenproblem

چکیده
In this paper we consider the computation of a finite eigenvalue and corresponding right eigenvector of a large sparse generalised eigenproblem Ax = λMx using inexact inverse iteration. Our convergence theory is quite general and requires few assumptions on A and M. In particular, there is no need for M to be symmetric positive definite or even nonsingular. The theory includes both fixed and variable shift strategies, and the bounds obtained are improvements on those currently in the literature. In addition, the analysis developed here is used to provide a convergence theory for a verson of inexact simplified Jacobi-Davidson. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theory: including applications in nuclear reactor stability, with M singular and nonsymmetric, the linearised Navier-Stokes equations and the bounded finline dielectric waveguide.

Iterative Methods for Neutron Transport Eigenvalue Problems
We discuss iterative methods for computing criticality in nuclear reactors. In general this requires the solution of a generalised eigenvalue problem for an unsymmetric integro-differential operator in 6 independent variables, modelling transport, scattering and fission, where the dependent variable is the neutron angular flux. In engineering practice this problem is often solved iteratively, u...
متن کاملA New Inexact Inverse Subspace Iteration for Generalized Eigenvalue Problems
In this paper, we represent an inexact inverse subspace iteration method for computing a few eigenpairs of the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = Bx [Q. Ye and P. Zhang, Inexact inverse subspace iteration for generalized eigenvalue problems, Linear Algebra and its Application, 434 (2011) 1697-1715 ]. In particular, the linear convergence property of the inverse subspace iteration is preserved.
متن کاملTuned preconditioners for inexact two-sided inverse and Rayleigh quotient iteration
Convergence results are provided for inexact two-sided inverse and Rayleigh quotient iteration, which extend the previously established results to the generalized eigenproblem, and inexact solves with a decreasing solve tolerance. Moreover, the simultaneous solution of the forward and adjoint problem arising in two-sided methods is considered and the successful tuning strategy for preconditione...
متن کاملRayleigh Quotient Iteration and Simplified Jacobi-davidson with Preconditioned Iterative Solves for Generalised Eigenvalue Problems
The computation of a right eigenvector and corresponding finite eigenvalue of a large sparse generalised eigenproblem Ax = λMx using preconditioned Rayleigh quotient iteration and the simplified JacobiDavidson method is considered. Both methods are inner-outer iterative methods and we consider GMRES and FOM as iterative algorithms for the (inexact) solution of the inner systems that arise. The ...
متن کاملInexact Newton methods for inverse eigenvalue problems
In this paper, we survey some of the latest development in using inexact Newton-like methods for solving inverse eigenvalue problems. These methods require the solutions of nonsymmetric and large linear systems. One can solve the approximate Jacobian equation by iterative methods. However, iterative methods usually oversolve the problem in the sense that they require far more (inner) iterations...
